THE GOLDMALI S LITTER (Malinois)
Santee Sioux at Goldmali (hips 5/6, elbows 0/0, eye test up to date, DNA negative for SDCA1&2, DM & JCM) x Goldmali Kind of Magic (hips 4/4, elbows 0/0, eye test up to date)
There wasn't going to be another Malinois litter, last year's Q litter was the final one. There wasn't going to be a blog either. But sometimes you need to do something to help out a friend who has had too much heartache, so this litter is for E and H. And even though the puppies are rapidly heading towards 3 weeks old and I've only started today, it seems easier to do a blog for all photos!
So this is the final, FINAL Goldmali Malinois litter. Date of birth 1st of October 2021.
1st of October we played safe and went to the vet, who agreed that a caesarean was needed. As expected from the scan we'd had, there were 8 puppies. 3 dogs and 5 bitches.
Magic wasn't quite sure what to do with the pups initially. Where had they come from?
There is a heated pad underneath this vetbed so all were kept warm.
Magic wanted to rest on the couch so we put the pups to her a few at a time. They suckled and Magic was happy. I can't really post the other photos of this as Magic was rather gory looking after the surgery!
It worked, Magic realised the puppies were hers and she started looking after them.

The puppies are not gaining enough weight. Magic is a very good mother and she is happy, bouncy and eating as normal. In the evening we discover a discharge that looks like blood but isn't quite the right shade. Magic will see the vet tomorrow morning to play safe.

Magic sees the vet, still acting normal. She has a very high temperature and a racing heart and it is what I dreaded -she has developed pyometra. She's put on a drip to gain some strength before going through her second operation within just 12 days -this time she is spayed. I bottle feed the pups during the day whilst she is at the vet's, and expect her to sleep and not look after the pups when she comes back home. But no, she goes straight back to looking after the puppies the moment she arrives home. What an amazing girl!
